silly question possibly. My doctor has change my dose of amlodipine from 5mg to 10mg. I have to pick it up later. I have some 5mg left, could I just double up on the 5mg as I normally take my pills in the morning rather than wait for the chemist to open. I know, silly question. (I know you can’t give specific medical advice but don’t 2 5mg = 10mg)
blood pressure : silly question... - British Heart Fou...
blood pressure
I’m think but not sure I read a post that advised didn’t work like this, I don’t think a few hours will make a difference if you wait to pick the 10mg
Or if concerned ……
Take your 5mg today and start your 10mg tomorrow.
One more day should be ok.
Hope helps - not a silly question.
I take 10mg amlodipine. I can be a bit hit and miss with timing but I try to ensure it’s still morning when I take it.
👍
Cheers, best to wait it’s only 1.5hour and I take a bisoprolol in the meantime as per usual. Thank you.
Sounds like a good plan👍
Just to close this off. I went to pharmacy got and took the 10mg. I did ask her about adding the 2 5mgs together and she said that’s fine. So will use those as emergency backups. Still while this maybe true for these pills it may not be for others I think that’s what made me ask the question. Have a great day.
Yes it will be the same dosage . But the first thing the AF nurses did was take me off Amlodipine when I was diagnosed with PAF and small hole in the side of my heart due to swollen ankles. I had been on it for a few years. I still take Ramipril. They said they wish GPs didn't prescribe it. I take Flecainide and Apixaban for my heart.
When you say they wish GPs didn’t prescribe it, is that amlodipine or ramipril? Thanks
Amlodipine the AF clinic nurses always took them off heart patients as they always caused problems with swollen ankles and legs. . Ramipril they approved of I have been taking 10mg one a day for over 10 years because of high blood pressure.
Hmmm I had my afib finally diagnosed by the nhs in October, they switched me from Indapamide and ramipril to Amlodipine (recently increased to 10 mg) and Bisoprolol. Many years back I was on Amlodipine but changed as it caused the dentist suggested it could cause the gums to bleed.
I can only tell you want the AF clinic nurses told me. I had swollen ankles and legs I never thought it was because of Amlodipine my old GP put me on after giving me a diagnosis of LVH which she did via in house ECG in 2017 . I never saw a cardiologist until I moved here in 2019. When I had an echocardiogram because I had never had one my cardiologist was surprised they found a problem . When I had the bubble echocardiogram the radiologist said we can see the bubbles but not where we expected them and run the test 3 times.
When I was referred to the AF clinic saw the nurses every week for a month then twice a month then once a month for 2 months. In that time had a MRI on my heart. Was in the machine over 90 mins with dye injected. I hate small spaces but I had instructions to follow so didn't realise I was in so long. That's when they found where the hole was. I was lucky it's not in the connections between the chambers of my heart but a small hole between my lungs and heart.
I do get breathless at times but unless I get chest pains it safer to leave it.
I miss heart beats daily . Have palpitations and heart flutters but I don't worry about it as it never lasts long and only have them every no and then.
My ankles and legs went down until 3 weeks of stopping the Amlodipine. And could finally wear ankle boots.
Yes you can just double up no problem, just as you can cut a larger dose in half if needed.
