Hi everyone, I’ve been taking Atorvastatin for several weeks now but I’ve developed a fairly severe pain in my tummy area. It’s a stabbing, shooting pain usually after I’ve eaten. I’m wondering if the Atorvastatin is causing a problem so I’m off to the Doctors this morning. I’m super anxious because I don’t like seeing doctors I don’t know and actually doctors in general, even though my daughter is one! Wish me luck 🙄
Atorvastatin : Hi everyone, I’ve been... - British Heart Fou...
Atorvastatin
Hi bramble I'm on the same since oct 22, but dont suffer any known to me side effects as yet . I know one side effect can be constipation, I wont ask the question as you probably know what I'm about to type Haha. Good luck with appointment
Hi Bluelobby, You are spot on with the constipation, I take Atorvastatin and so now I have to take 15 mls of Lactulose twice a day, and I have a bowl of fresh fruit topped with yoghurt ever day as well as prunes and blueberries in yoghurt, plus an apple a day. You would think that with all of the above I shouldn't have a problem, well take it from me there are some days when nothing works and the strain begins.

I’ve been on Atorvastatin since 2008 and never had any side effects.
hi i could not take that statin kept on getting pains in my legs i have just got inclisiran 284mg witch seems to work
Atorvastatin was a no for me as well, I was getting problems with my legs, same with Simvastatin and both were stopped with my doctors agreement. Now on Rosuvastatin and that is working well for me with no side effects so far after 3 months.
Hi Iv'e been on Atorvastatin for many years and for the last 5 years on 80mg daily which I take after my evening meal. I occasionally suffer from excruciating leg cramps including my thighs, calves and feet, during the night sometimes more than once a night. My cardiologist reduced the dose to 40mg but I still occasionally get the cramps. What are your leg problems?
I was getting muscle pains like yourself, really bad at night such that it would wake me up and I normally sleep really soundly. Doctor wasn't that interested in sorting it out at first, I had to be quite persistent.
Rosuvastatin that I've mentioned was prescribed on my release from hospital in June after my PCI, AVR and CABG. GP's don't seem to like prescribing it other than for heart patients and/or younger persons.
Conversely, I couldn't cope with Rosuvastatin for the same reasons. Awful leg pain/cramps that woke me up. Several conversations with the very helpful clinical pharmacist and I'm now back on a reduced dose of atorvastatin and only if I tolerate it will it be increased. Very much a case of "the recommended dose is the maximum dose you can tolerate". If this doesn't work we'll explore other options. My cardiologist is happy with this "sensible plan" as he called it.
It did the same to me so I swapped to simvastatin- no problems with that but I do take a tablet to protect my stomach. You need either a PPI or famotidine.
I already take a PPI. I think I was well on my to pancreatitis. I’m better than I was but not 100%
I sometimes have to double my dose of famotidine for a couple of weeks but if you have pancreatitis that's a whole different ball game.
