Sorry I can't help. I have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in one hip, and am on bisoprolol. The GP has given me co-codamol which does nothing. Fingers crossed someone else has some useful suggestions.
I am taking clopdigerel and amlodipine, which is similar to bisoprol. Waiting for two new knees due to osteoarthritis. Have been prescribed co-codamol as can't take ibuferen.
I have severe psoriatic arthritis and I take all that. The Cardiologists don’t like a lot of my arthritis medication but without it I’d be dead. Yes Psoriasis can be fatal in some circumstances. I have discovered that specialists and hospital departments don’t talk to each other. Cardiology don’t want me to take anti inflammatories. Rheumatology say I have to..
prednisolone, methotrexate, amgevita, ibuprofen, Etoricoxib plus painkillers paracetamol, codeine, gabapentin. The cardiologists don’t like the prednisolone, ibuprofen and Etoricoxib but they aren’t the ones who can’t walk. I take 18 tablets in the morning, 5 at 10 am, 7 at 2pm, one at 5pm and 9 at bedtime but at least I can move around and I try to swim every day. I’m in a bit of a mess and awaiting spinal surgery. Psoriatic arthritis can be very nasty. It’s even suspected of being the cause of my heart attack. Something rheumatoid vasculitis. I forgot to mention the methotrexate and amgevita are taken by self administered injections.
I'm on Bisoprolol and Rivaroxaban, and have arthritis in most joints, severe in lumbar spine. Haven't had replacement knees or hips as my arms are too bad to support me on a walking aid post-op. I can't take Ibuprofen either, they did say I could use the gel though. I recently discovered Ibuprofen spray, which although it's not as strong as the prescribed gel I find it at least 3 times more effective. There are other meds but don't know if they'd be appropriate for you, I was given a couple but lacked the courage to try them as I react so badly to so many things. You can ask your GP, and you can also ask for a referral to the Pain Management Clinic but be prepared for a wait, it was 283 days for me.
It is worth asking for co-codanol capsules, I'm assuming you were given 30/500, I find the capsules much more effective than tablets, definitely not the soluble ones. Take them by the clock, don't chase the pain.
I'm going to have more acupuncture, I found it very useful before
Hope you can get something useful from all this, I've been trying to manage my pain for more than 25 years, so very much have tried most things. One last thing, it is worth seeing a physiotherapist, exercises can and do help relieve pain.
Hello scented gardener so sorry to hear how much you are suffering! I’ve had physio didn’t help, I just wondered as hearties was there anything else we could take with our meds, Drs haven’t been much help.
Thanks. I tend to work on the philosophy of if I can't change the pain I have to change the way I deal with it. It's been my experience that doctors don't do much about chronic pain, or how much it restricts your life. There are things like pain relief patches, pain killers that work in different ways, and if you can get an appointment with a pain clinic at least they will listen. If you ask your GP for a referral then say 'And how can you help me while I'm waiting for the appointment?"
I have mild arthritis in my wrists and hands and am often in pain in winter when it is cold but I'm not currently on any prescribed medication for it. I have noticed however that since starting Bisroprlol that my arms and hands are so much colder all of the time even now in Summer and that the pains in my wrists and hands is increasing in frequency and intensity. At the moment I'm just trying to ignor it!
I also agree with the statement that hospital consultants (and sometimes GP's) don't talk to each other. And I also wish NHS Healthcare was more holistic in treating the whole person as although what Cardiology wants often wins over other departments prescriptions sometimes we'd prefer a bit less pain from our other ailments.
I have OA and have had two hip replacements. I do take bisoprolol plus amlodipine and also ibuprofen. I wouldn’t be without ibuprofen. I’ve got mitral regurgitation plus hypertension and ectopics, so may be different from your conditions.
Hi I am sorry to hear about your situation. I have psoriatic arthritis along with skin and nail psoriasis. I take a disease modifying drug, but cannot take nsaid's as I take an anticoagulant for clotting issues? Psoriasis related. I have heart block and tachycardia? Psoriasis related. Like you I have arthritis in my hips for me this is from hip dysplasia that I was born with, I have cocodamol which has little effect. Just had surgery and reconstruction on my ear for skin cancer? Psoriasis related. Each speciality seems to deal with their issue, no one looks at you holistically. It is very frustrating and demoralising. Gp seem out of their depth or not interested. Psoriasis affects skin, joints, heart, lungs bowel, eyes and is one disease but no joined up care. Apparently most of my symptoms are due to the menopause!!!! Always an easy out. Sorry have moaned on about myself and not offered any advice. You are not alone although I appreciate that doesn't make it any easier. The nhs care in my experience is very poor (I say that as a nurse) which just adds to our difficulties. I am so sorry for your situation it makes day to day life very tough. Take care.
Hi found out recently of my cardiologists secretary that I have arthritis in right knee and hip but not on anything other than codeine and paracetamol for leg pain. I am on bisoprolol too.
Yes I have osteoarthritis and take both medications. I can only say that lately my osteoarthritis pain has been worse and I have been much more fatigued than usual but I think long term pain is tiring and restrictive, I tend to think the heart medication is essential to prevent heart attack or stroke and therefore try to be sensible in what I know I can achieve with my knee and back pain and what makes it worse.
Completely forgot the one thing that really does work for me is Boots own 10% ibuprofen gel it's so much better than Voltarol and cheaper. Have a go like all these creams and gels it doesn't smell great but does the job.
