HBP and Anxiety - Best Time for Medication.

Hi all, hope you are all well,

Just a comment today and a question. Firstly, no matter how hard it feels trying to get high blood pressure under control, don't be like me - impatient - you will get there it really is a matter of finding the right medication and this can take time. That and lifestyle changes really will make a difference. Thank you to everyone who has given me advice over the last four months.

I'm pretty much there now averaging around 120/80 over a 24 hour period. I do get peaks particularly in the morning. I take Ramipril in the morning and both Bisoprolol and Amlodipine at night. I am thinking of Changing them around to Bisoprolol and Amlodipine morning and Ramipril at night (only after speaking to the Chemist/GP). I am thinking the Beta Blocker may help my anxiety more if it is taken first thing in the morning. Any views?

Cheers

Andrew

You are doing the best thing by checking with your Pharmacist/GP.

Depending on the dosage of your Bisop & Amlodpine, I would say the only issue might be that your BP may drop a bit too much in the daytime causing lightheadedness, but as long as you are aware of this, especially initially, it may not be an issue, but obviously your Pharma/GP will know best.

Hi Andrew,I'm on Ramipril and Bisoprolol. I used to take both meds in morning. As my weight came down and more exercise so did my BP on top of the meds. I started getting a bit light headed in the daytime. My GP suggested Bisoprolol in morning and Ramipril at night. The balance is much better for me now. HTH.

Hi Xtorti0n, that's what I'm thinking, but don't want to change without permission. The BHF nurse says it could benefit me and I've got a call back from a clinician at the GP later today booked. I shall see what they say. Thanks for telling me your experience. Andrew

Quick update - GP has switched the meds to Bisoprolol in the morning and Ramipril at night. Also arranging a 24 hour monitor reading to inform going forward.

I take 5mg of bisoprolo in the morning and 5mg of amlodpine late afternoon that sorted me out after taking them together. May be worth a try. Good luck

Thanks Bex40. My GP has now agreed to change them around. So hopefully might make a difference.

Totally agree with you Andrew. Bisoprolol helps my anxiety and whilst at work. Definitely take it in the morning

in reply toDazzyB

Thanks DazzyB, I hope taking the Bisoprolol during the daytime will help me. I feel taking it at night I lose it's benefit as I'm asleep most of the time. Andrew

hi Andrew, I agree with your sentiments about getting bp under control.

Initially after HA and CA I was on ramipril and bisoprolol morning and night and my bp was still high. Adding isosorbide mononitrate did not affect bp but helped with Angina symptoms (stable and unstable). Amlodipine was added and at once my bp was down around the target 120-130.

Now switched bisoprolol to Ivabradine and added Nicorandil, unstable angina seems under control.

Its been 4 years in the making though, I was fine on Bisoprolol and Ramipril ( although bp 140-150) until c 18 months ago when unstable angina started . Still have the feeling that if GP had been more agressive in controlling bp (as requested by consultant) it may not have come to this.

Dear Gibson01, thanks for taking the time to reply. sorry to hear that it took your GP so long to sort it. I hope you are doing ok now. I haven't been able to see mine in person - all been by e mail and it really frustrates me. You just don't get the time to get explanations or ask follow up questions. Keep well. Andrew
