I personally find that if I'm doing shallow breathing my BP will go up. Try taking a deeper breath in and then let the out breath come out faster. Do this a few times and then retake your BP to see if shallow breathing is your cause.

Hi Robs,

You don't give many details about when your BP is measured. Most people's BP is elevated when checked in the surgery and allowance is made for this, 151/87 isn't so high, BP goes up with age.

Do you measure your BP at home when relaxed? BP changes all through the day, it rises quickly in the morning and often drops after meals, my BP plummets after a hot bath.

It's important to measure it at the same time under the same conditions and after a time you will relax more and hopefully it will be lower, but 151/87 isn't so high.

Good luck

Lots of people would be very happy with 151/87, I just wonder if it represents an average of several readings or if it just the first reading? A lot of advice suggests to ignore the first couple of readings and then take an average of the next 2/3 readings to give a true picture. Wish you well.

Thanks for reply, the reading is taken as an average two a day morning and early evening, using the lowest of two readings

After we get to our 70's they are not so concerned about readings of 150 as they are afraid that over medication might cause dizzy spels and falls.

Looks as though this reading willbe acceptable, and as you say falling may be more of a concern at my age of 77! thanks for your reply

Hi Boris, Dont check more than 6 monthly when stable, and then twice a day for a couple of days, recording two or three and taking an aaverage, certainly not over anxious,

thanks for reply
