Anti platelets and anti coagulation and an itch!

Just over a year ago I had 1 stent after the discovery of 99% blockage to LAD artery. Scary but with time and a bagful of meds I have returned to work and in general have done OK.

My meds clopidogrel, atorvastatin, ramipril, lanzaprasole, and Apixaban. At the time I was on warfarin I have a prior history of blood clots but changed to Apixaban given the difficulties managing warfarin.

My problem itching, my skin is suddenly crawling especially my scalp. Is it possible to have a reaction to meds so long after? My main question is does anyone else take anti platelets and anti coagulation meds?

I have never had a meaningful conversation with a cardiologist, the brief chat I had at the time of the angioplasty was clopidogrel for life..... I have done 12 months and really want to understand why I have to take both. Surely anticogulation through the Apixaban would suffice. Regardless of the anticoagulation I have got to the 12 month post procedure point. My GP refers to the decision made during my emergency visit to cath lab but now I wonder about side effects.

I had 2 stents a year ago, everything OK apart from similar problems. Tingling sensations in hands, sometimes also in face, and at the moment I have a weird "warm" feeling down my calf and ankle, as if I am wearing wellies and someone has poured warm water into them. I am regularly exercising and have no other problems, am only on Atorvastatin and I know it's not that, so either something has changed in my body or it is Clopidogrel or asprin. Didn't have HA and heart is undamaged. Must be the anti platelets, GP has "no idea"

Hello

I have read some place in the past that dual anti platelet therapy is for a year and then stepped down to single, which is a 75mg Aspirin. I think a lot depends on how you have reacted to the therapy !!

Thanks yes I’ve read that too if I was only on one I’d understand and want the protection but to be on 2 lifelong and take stomach protection because of it which reduces stomach acid and can add to B12 problems seems an ask.

Hey ho - thank you both

Itching all over, I believe can be a sign of liver problems. I would suspect that some of your tablets may affect the liver so it might be a good idea to get it checked. After I started on the mass of post HA tablets I had to have a liver test after a couple of months.

I had a DVT and took aphixaban for 3 months had no issues for my heart condition left ventricular impairment I did take Ramipril and Bisropolol but found Ramipril was giving me a bad night cough that was horrible every tablet could technically have a side effect so now on losartan hope this helps. phil

Hi there.

I’m afraid I can’t be much help. I had a Mitral Valve Repair together with a Triple Bypass in July this year. I also have experienced the same problem with “crawling itching” feeling. My GP changed my Ramipril tablet to Losartin and I can say it as reduced the itching to a level I can now cope with (before this I was driven mad by the itching)

Maybe worth investigating/discussing with your GP.

Hope you sort things out.

Kind regards

David

The itching stopped, I’m still on both. I’ve been on this mix of meds now for 18 months and I seem to be coping. I used to take warfarin, the apixaban is much easier, I had to have an operation at the beginning of the year and was bridged from it and back to it OK .

Not sure why your still on both ,,,I’ve been told only take apixaban and stop clopidigrol and aspirin , unless there’s other reasons I’m not sure , I’d ask consultant ,,,,I’m going to ask mines again ,,, want to be sure ,,,but what I’ve read recently says you should only be on one if possible ,
