Following a recent Angiogram the consultant wanted to monitor my Angina by medical management. He prescribed 5mg Amlodopine. However I noticed this is also given for High blood pressure. My bp is generally normal. Has anyone experienced adverse effects when taking this medication. I also take atorvastatin aspirin and Bisprolol.
He also told me I had a partially blocked artery and a branch of one of the other arteries was blocked.
Thanks
Paul

Amlodipine is a CCI (calcium channel inhibitor). By dilating blood vessels it reduces angina and also BP. When I was on it it suppressed angina but had only a small effect on (my) BP. Obviously we are all different in our response to medication. Also what do you define as normal BP? People's view of normal BP and cholesterol can vary enormously.
I am utterly fascinated by what people consider normal bp. My understanding was anything below 140 over 80 was ok. However a friend considers his usual bp of 155 over 106 totally ok and is "normal". I've tried to explain but it is not sinking in; apparently his GP has suggested it is too high but friend considers his healthy, sporty lifestyle sufficient not to need chemical support. Denial is a wonderful thing I suppose....
Having seen endless diabetic and cardiolgy consultants I think yours with angina should be 130/75 or lower. Your friend's is too high particularly the diastolic (lower) value and he should see his GP. A low dose ACE inhibitor might do the trick but those levels are increasing his risk of heart attack or stroke. Hopefully he has a healthy lifestyle.
fortunately I don;t have angina and, with the beta blocker and Ramipril, my bp rarely exceeds 117/79. Diet and exercise too of course - however it is relentless self denial.... I have dreams of being in a chocolate shop and being challenged to eat from one end of a shelf to the other.... sigh.
I was given amlopidine for moderately high blood pressure, however after less than a month my ankles had swollen considerably. I was taken off this med by my GP and am now 3 weeks into taking Losartan with no side effects so far.
Like you I was given this medication yesterday from the cardiologist first day today of taking it I’ve had a good result from ct scan got to wait for a echocardiogram now they don’t know what’s wrong with me hopefully we will get to the bottom of this .Being reading reviews on this drug and must say not good but I’ll give it a try and see out it goes
Thanks for your response. I know it's a bit daunting with medication. My dad has these for High blood pressure. I had echocardiogram a few months ago. That was fine. I go away Friday so will start these tablets when I come back.
