Mirena Coil

Hi, I had the mirena coil fitted on Tuesday. I had GA to have a hysteroscopy & biopsy. I have a 2cm fibroid. My initial consultant recommended the Mirena, but he was not the same consultant on the day. The doctor on the day said she fitted it but didnt know if it would work for me as my heavy bleeding my flush it out and to get an appointment with my original consultant in 3 months to discuss fibroid removal. She couldn't remove it on the day as that wasnt what I was booked in for.

I got in touch with my initial consultant via email and he didnt respond to any of my concerns other than telling me I could use tampons after a week.

The mirena has me in agony, 4 days on. I was given tramadol and paracetamol on the day. Sent home with co-codamol then had to beg my GP for something stronger yesterday.

The bleeding has changed to a reddy/brown discharge and the cramps are stabbing, severe and very uncomfortable.

Has anyone else experienced this? Anything i read says you can more or less go back to work the same day! I've been off all week so far.

Thanks in advance.

Not every woman finds either a copper or Mirena IUD insertion an easy process. Also if you had a biopsy some women may find this uncomfortable. The number of women needing hysterectomies in the UK for bleeding has fallen sharply with the introduction of the IUS, so fingers crossed it will settle your bleeding. Just keep on regular pain relief hopefully all will settle.
