Good morning everyone

My copd as got so bad over the past 4 weeks and to top that off I have a bad chest infection and the flu , The hospital gave me a nebuliser to take home and I can use it two times aday morning and evening and it’s working so much better than my pumps and I’m also on prednisone tablets 8 every morning. My ribs are so painful from all the coughing I’ve been doing , my doctor and the hospital as put me on bed rest at home for 7 days but if I don’t feel any better then I have to go into hospital, so fingers crossed I start to feel better in the next day or so . Take care everyone keep warm xx

Poor you 😢, try your best to get that mucus up and out of your lungs so it can't fester & multiply more bugs. Simplist is Huffing technique (see youtube for it and other methods) I believe its OK to take paracetamol for the rib muscle pain and fever but check with your medic and whilst talking to them ask for somethingto ease the coughing- althoughIsuspectits natures way of gettingthe gunk up n out. Perhaps a hot water bottle on the ribs

Hi peege, just seen on this about getting mucus up! Is it harder for you to get rid of mucus when you have some form of copd. I only ask cos I feel like I’ve got it and constantly trying to get rid of it but it won’t move. I feel like I’ve got it up but can’t spit it out, I know this sounds horrible but I’m sure I’m swallowing it. I was told when you stop smoking I would bring all sorts of nasty up but I’ve had nothing !!

The respiratory nurse team told me that, if you swallow mucus, your stomach acid will quickly make any germs very unhappy. I like that idea.

Keep well hydrated so stuff in lungs is also moist. I dont have copd so realise it's a bit different but we all have similar issues. People with Bronchiectasis often have excessive mucus which must be expelled, they have daily physio sessions to bring it up, taught by physiotherapists (some have thrice daily sessions poor things, a good friend has one hour sessions morning and night). Many members take a mucolytic (one is prescribed Carbocysteine) it helps to moisten mucus making it easier to shift. I take it because if I don't I easily grow bacteria in anything left in there. I'd suggest you ask your doc for it while you're going through the changes that quitting makes. They should be supportive

COPD is giving you a rough time Sweetapple51 - I hope for you that the Pred's and nebuliser will see you right soon. Bed Rest - I would take it, watch TV and relax, I know it's hard, but the bed rest will give your lungs less work to do I guess.

Fingers Cross you very soon will end your bed rest fit and feeling well.

Hope you feel better soon. Im finding it tough at mo with chest infection as having copd is'nt enough. I work 18hrs a week & i am struggling. I bought my own nebuliser so i can use that as & when i need it. Sending you big hugs. Xx

How miserable - i do hope you feel better soon. To keep hydrated and if you have got bored with tea and coffee i can recommend ginger cordial or similar made with boiling water, its very warming and does make you feel a bit better. Cat cuddling and a good film plus hot water bottles and rugs. I attach a pic that always makes me laugh - two vultures showing off their leggings 😀 get well soon

Hi Sweetapple51 Sounds like a bad exasperation of the Copd.

I suffered just like you exhausted and pain ribs back from coughing so much. I was admitted to hospital put on antibiotics steroids and nebuliser home after 3days to rest and they gave me a nebuliser to use. The meds and nebuliser did help to ease the coughing slightly but sorry to say it lasted about 6wks or more. Apparently these flare up exasperations are common with copd. I tried all sorts of cough medicines but they don't work and aren't recommended. I used honey to soothe my throat and cough it did help. I hope 🙏 you feel better soon love as I know how rough this can be. God bless take care 🙂 🙏 ❤️

I feel your pain chook, just finished prednisone (8 a day) didn't think they worked for me to be honest with you but a couple of days after feeling fine. There are so many things going around at the moment that it seems practically impossible not to get something. Copd does suck as I was due to review my meds today but my body had other ideas. Good luck chook 👍 hope you feel better soon 😉
