It has been over a year since I last posted here. I retreated into my shell to grieve for Fidget but it hurts so much still, and I think the only way forward is to rehome another hound to bring routine back into my life. I can only do that though if my breathing improves and I can be a good and responsible greyhound slave.
I read about Zephyr Valves and talked about them with my COPD team. The next thing I knew I was having tests followed by a phonecall from a surgeon to discuss lung reduction instead.
I had the surgery on February 1st at Barts in London. It did not go quite as smoothly as it should have done as I ended up in intensive care with surgical emphysema followed by pneumonia. I eventually came home after a month only to catch a severe chest infection after 2 weeks. Those 2 weeks were bliss though because I could breathe so much better and my walking had improved.
At the present time I am clawing my way back to being ahead of the game, but it's slow going and I am on oxygen 24/7.
I will try to come on here more, but I must get back to the drawing at some point as I have people waiting.
Here is my boy. I still feel him close and I swear he was with me in intensive care.

Oh my goodness. I am so very sorry to hear about the loss of Fidget and the terrible trauma you have been through. It must have been very difficult having to go through all that, but I have no doubt in my mind that Fidget was with you and still is. Bless him.
I am so happy to see you back here again. You do such marvelous drawings no wonder people are waiting.
So good to hear from you. I do remember your posts and your artwork. What a very hard time you have had. But I am glad you are back with us. Hang in there, little steps, congratulate yourself on your achievements. And get the art stuff down from the shelf. All the best

Welcome back F & S and so sorry you have had such a hard time. I believe that animals which have been shown such love and care never really leave your side. Take those babysteps to getting back on your feet and perhaps you will then be able to pick up the artwork again x
Your boy will always be with you and I do understand how you feel. Be glad that you could care for him till the end and now care for yourself. Good luck x

What an awful time you’ve had ! Hopefully things will get better now albeit slowly , just keep on going with an eye to a better future . I’m sure your boy was with you , I have two dogs and love them both dearly , I’ve loved every dog I’ve had over the years but the boy I have now is something special , there is a connection between us that I can’t explain but I’m sure we ll always be together in spirit as you are with Fidget xx
Ahh so sad re fidget. Take things easy, get plenty of rest to repair yourself. Hope you are on the mend now and your op leads to a great success with your breathing. Keep in touch and I hope when your fitness improves you will think about helping another fur baby. X
No wonder you've been absent for a year with all that going on. What a loss Fidget has been for you. Hoping your recovery gets easier and you soon find your say to an improved you, ready for your next greyhound.
What a time you’ve had in the past year, both physically and mentally but it does sound as if you’re going in the right direction health wise. I understand completely about missing Fidget, our pets are like our children. Getting a new rescue would be good once you are well.
We have two dogs, and a cat who died last October. I still feel her presence, especially in our dining room, where her bed was. The dogs are aware of her because sometimes they’ll stand and bark by a high cupboard she used to watch them from - I think they can ‘see’ her! Please keep in touch and let us know how you’re getting on.
Thinking of you -saddened to learn of your loss of Fidget and your health difficulties.Welcome back remember you have an army of lung buddies on here ever ready to listen and support albeit virtually x
