Alcohol content of MDIs

HI, I've just started using Fostair pink MDI with a spacer. I was using Fostair nexthaler (dry powder) and was switched to this due to laryngeal thrush and breathing pattern disorder. I do not drink alcohol and am getting a burning sensation down my throat and a warm/inflamed feeling across my chest. I'm uncomfortable about this. Any ideas about MDI with spacer for adults with no alcohol in them? I can't find any information about specific inhalers and their ingredients on the asthmalunguk website. Many thanks (new to being diagnosed with asthma, despite having problems for years!)

Is alcohol a trigger for you? It is for me, and I found that the first inhaler I tried brought on an asthma attack immediately. But both the GP and pharmacist said that the only non-alcohol option was one that had an extremely high dose of steroid, so they suggested trying a different inhaler with alcohol to see if I were a little better with that one. I had to use the inhaler alongside the Ventolin for the first few days, but as my lungs calmed down, I found that the alcohol in the inhaler didn't affect them so badly, and now I hardly notice it.

If you're experiencing discomfort, it's certainly worth talking to your GP or pharmacist for advice, but I thought my experience might be helpful for you to hear.

Hi, thank you for your advice. Yes, alcohol is a trigger to sinus inflammation for me and I had polyp removal surgery last year so am nervous about anything that might re-inflame the problem areas. I get triggered a lot by washing powder/softeners in other peoples' clothes, too! I'll perhaps try for a while longer after your experience, to see if things calm down or worsen, and act from there. Thank you!

I get a warm feeling across my chest when I use fostair. To me it indicates that the fostair is getting deep into the lungs.

It does not remind me of alcohol as for me there is no fiery element to it.

Hello, thank yo for taking the time to reply. For me, it's the same feeling as I had when I accidentally sipped an alcoholic drink (I stopped drinking some years ago due to sinus inflammation). But perhaps I'm being too sensitive out of nervousness. Thanks for the information and sharing your experience.

I am also new to asthma ( diagnosed as a result of covid) have been using fostair since January 2021. I do have a burning Sensation but when I asked the consultant he said it was a normal reaction to a steroid based inhaler. I use a spacer when I have chest infection as it helps regulate the amount of steroid especially as I only have 80% lung capacity
