Hi, I’ve been prescribed 25mg quetipine alongside 45mg mirtazipine that I’ve been on for about 3 months. Has anyone else have any experience with this drug (quetiapine) please?Much appreciated.

hello there I’ve had experience with both those medication‘s. My doctor and I tried them last year for for a couple reasons the Seroquel was mostly introduced for an insomnia that I had developed the last couple years and it worked great for that. A problem was created when I went up in milligrams and at some point in there I felt almost like what I believe it would feel like to be poisoned. We tried it again later on at a lower dosage and I seem to accept a pretty well so for me at least there is a milligram amount that I can take. I don’t know if it matters but I’m a big guy 63 280 and we started at 50 mg then went up to 100 and that’s what I felt so funny . I found that I can take up to 50 maybe even 75 and not feel that same poison feeling.

We took myself off of it when I came across an article that there was litigation over Seroquel and kidney damage . Was put on lithium years ago for depression and that’s something that could definitely affect your kidney and I had elevated readings, stage three kidney failure. They took me off a lithium in October 2022 and my kidneys got better so the last thing I wanted to do was introduce, medication that would potentially increase my kidney damage .

I have 10 years experience with quetiapine. At a low dose it was fine, but getting to doses over 100mg it makes me feel like a zombie. I've had significant problems with weight gain, diabetes, and high lipids/cholesterol from taking this medication even at 100mg. I'm going to work with my psychiatrist to get off it because for me the side effects far outweigh the benefits at this point. I hope your experience is different. Definitely speak to your provider about any concerns you have about either medication. Best of luck to you 😊

Thankyou so much for your reply. I’m already diabetic and it isn’t under control either. I asked to be put on another medication together with the mirtazipine but my doctor is so keen on putting me on quetiapine. I think I need to get a second opinion from one of the other doctors at the surgery. Thanks again for your help

I've been on these together, and my main problem was that I completely lost my appetite, which made ED behavior really easy to slip into because I didn't feel any physical downsides of not eating. I agree with your thought to get a second opinion. Your doctor works for you--if they're not serving you well, you're the one who gets to decide if they keep working for you or not.

Thankyou for your reply. I’m really confused about taking the qutiapine as I haven’t come across anybody saying that it’s helped. I’m taking 45mg mirtazipine and I’m still struggling. I’m thinking adding a low dose of another antidepressant may help. Any thoughts on that would be much appreciated. Many thanks
