What’s peoples experience of mirtazapine doctor wants me to swop from Citalopram on to this, so I’m tapering from Citalopram on to the mirtazapine at the same time, took it for the first time last night and today it’s like I’m mentally slow and dizzy when I move so this is freaking me out so much. Also stopped taking Zopiclone last night too and managed to sleep without it but I feel out of it this morning, please help tell me this normal please can’t calm down and the doctors are shut today

I’ve been on mirtazapine for about 6 months now and haven’t had your experience with it at all . Funnily enough I used to be on zopiclone to sleep too but not for v long as doc says it’s too addictive . I don’t sleep much , consequently.

I think it’s more likely the zopiclone causing you distress than the mirtazapine to be truthful . I cant remember exactly what it was like when I stopped taking it ,(MS - no short term memory) , but I know I found it distressing , that much I do remember .

There can be major tiredness when first starting Mirtazapine. May last for a few days.

Hi Peppa,Everyone's needs are a little different and sometimes it is trial and error with these meds. Mirtazapine has worked for me and yes the weight gain can be a concern. I am surprised that they would have you stop the zopiclone entirely and not gradually have you wean off of it. I take 7.5mg of mirtazapine before bedtime and about an hour later 5 mg of zopiclone and get a good night's sleep. I also take a small dosage of escitalopram in the morning. As time goes on I will be gradually weaning off of the night time meds. It took 3 months before I noticed a positive difference in how I felt after starting the mirtazapine. Keep in contact with your doctor on a regular basis, journal how you feel and a day will come where you will be putting a happy face in your journal entry. We all want instant results when starting a new med but it does takes time. Best of luck in your journey Pippa.

How long before it settles down do you think, I’m so anxious about taking new meds and I can’t cope with this zombie feeling

Hi Peppa...I was the same way, reluctant to start mirtazapine. But I am glad I did. The idea is (as far as I know) to determine the right amount of each to help you sleep and lessen depression mood. There is no hard and fast rule as to when you will feel better. It will be so gradual that you won't notice until one day you notice that your depressive mood has gone away. Keep in touch with your doctor and let him know how you are feeling. You will get through this Peppa.

I have taken the Zopiclone for 4 to 5 weeks at 7.5 and then reduced it to 3.75 for a few nights and now I’ve stopped it so I have tapered off I guess, I’m so anxious on this new med which doesn’t help I hate taking meds but at the same time I know that I need them, I just hope it all settles down soon, how long does this last

Be carefull just stopping zopiclone I’ve lots of experience it’s this you will get serious withdrawal symptoms , aching , sweating , head aches and u won’t sleep , really advise speaking to your go to ween off them . Paracetamol and ibuprofen will help slightly to take the edge off but trust me you going suffer for Atleast 7 days . It’s dangerous and anxiety will shoot up . Hope you get through it I’m here to help if u need it
