Anyone on anything a bit unusual and helpful? Any off-label or off-patent drugs?

Curious if anyone is, or has been on any drugs that aren’t the current “big ones”?

I was reading a book about cancer and the common re-use of older drugs and off-label prescriptions to create a treatment stack (such as using statins, H2blockers, metformin etc) and it made me think hmm afib is also often a complex situation.

I know beta blockers, digoxin etc are out of patent but I was wondering about anymore “unusual” or unexpected drugs helping quality of life with afib?

I understand it will be very individual I am just curious and yes my question stems from my husband’s intolerance to many drugs (latests no-go was Amiodarone) and I am trying to look for possibilities.

Thanks, Eva

sometimes it helps to write a profile on your name so people get an idea of what he's tried and what general health is. I'm on low dose Flecanide and low dose Metoprolol which for some people can be very good and keeps me in Sinus. Also Mag Taurate, CoQ10 and Vit d3 all of which my blood tests showed i was low in. I'm not sure if this helps but i'd like to think in some way it helps. You may have to pay extra to add in these blood tests when he next gets them done.

Hi! It does very much help, I appreciate you sharing your experience and current regime.

Fortunately we have had private blood tests done so similarly are correcting deficiencies and imbalances already.

I'm on this forum for my husband, he is 72 and was "fit and well" as in no daily symptoms or limitations despite having a heart failure diagnosis 2 years ago (triggered by a heart attack 2 decades ago). He has had high blood pressure for a long time and other bits but not much medication as we have tried to manage naturally through lifestyle and supplementation.

Afib and flutter and debilitating symptoms started 3 months ago when an defibrillator was implanted. It was offered as a safety net with "you might have a slightly higher risk of cardiac arrest due to having had a heart attack, we can't tell".

Still ongoing contact with the hospital. Their last plan was loading with Amiodarone and then try (another) cardioversion. As he couldn't tolerate the Amiodarone we are now waiting for another call and I am trying to do as much research as I can as afib/arrhythmias are new areas to me.

So reading about cancer I got curious if the "afib world" utilised old drugs or unusual drugs prescribed off-label that I didn't know about.

Thanks again, Eva

Hi recently came across a video on Y Tube. I won't post the link but you can easily search for it by a chap under the name of SHAPEFIXER, who is a nutritionist and life style guru.He has a very good video on his own experience with Afib and being low in certain minerals.

This actual video is called heart arrhythmia or Afib. You might not need surgery. I followed his advice after I went back into Afib after doing a lot of running for half marathons but was only drinking water to re hydrate.

I was already taking Mag but not Pottasium. Started to add this and added electrolytes to my water and back in NSR

If you read a lot of the comments under the video. Seems others had success too.

He also lost weight and changed his diet too. From there he has since made videos on different minerals to improve heart issues. Might be worth just looking at.

Fantastic cockerfarley thank you so much that sounds great and right up my street.

As an aside I even have a jar of potassium at home but then I hesitated and we haven't trialed it (reminder to self - I must get that copy of his latest blood tests...).

I will watch his videos with great interest and thanks for the heads up about the comments, you are so right they are often full of good personal experiences and tips and tricks.

I really appreciate your help, Eva
