Heatwave survivor!

I'm sure I wasn't the only one worried about the last two days gone by here in the UK. Intense high temperatures and AF is not a good mix.

It's 12 month since my Dad passed away so at weekend I was up in Manchester by train. Fortunately back before the heat on Sunday got too much though I was carrying two portable fans, fruit and 2 litres of frozen/defrosting water with me. Plus we had an ice cream at Stoke on Trent station because we'd saved up ;)

Monday I was off work and apart from taking an hour in Sainsbury's shopping in the AC I didn't do anything. Even just doing little things round the house was too much.

A combination of the AF, and being on Citalopram has made me quite poor at coping in high temperatures but Tuesday I had to go to work because there was no other option to swap shifts this week.

Luckily my new boss, not for the first time, looked after me. As well as giving me a gentle morning a few weeks ago when I had been getting over my ear/balance problem, this time I had the morning on a ward in 33 degree heat but when the heat was worse in the afternoon I moved to daycase where there were only 3 patients and very little physical work beyond monitoring them as they came round and brewing up/cleaning down.

It still took most of the night last night when I got home to cool down, didn't really feel "cool" here until about 6am when I woke up cold. I've been sleeping downstairs with the patio and windows wide open and upstairs is still humid and stuffy this morning but it's HALF the temperature it was 12 hours ago.

I hope everyone came through it OK and stays well!

Just about came through and AF behaved itself. I was a bit worried as have a tummy bug along with a temperature but doing better now. Hubby was so poorly he got admitted to hospital early hours of Monday morning, given fluids and discharged at 9am which was good.

So pleased it’s cooler now. X

Yes we found it almost unbearable. We were travelling home from our friend’s in Warwickshire after our cat sitting duties. Lovely in the car with the air con not so good in our house - which faces South. Had to go out and water the garden. About 2 we had a clap of thunder and a slight shower but even grass was dry again in 10 mins. We didn’t cut the weeds (the grass hasn’t grown but the clover and weeds have). Woke up to drizzle this morning but again it’s now drying quickly. Temperatures inside are 24 to 26 as compared to 30+ yesterday with back doors open and about 4 fans going!

Glad to hear you have kept well during the heat. It sounds like you did all the right things you needed to, to help in the high temperatures. Ensuring you remain hydrated, keeping activities to a minimum where possible and avoiding over exertion, minimising exposure to the sunshine during the hottest part of the day, and if you are taking anticoagulants, which can be associated with sensitive skin, then ensuring you wear sunscreen or cover up in the direct sunshine.

Good to read jedimasterlincoln . No cooler here overnight but praying for a miracle as attending long awaited posh 3 course lunch today. Will wear my neck fan, posh or not.Pleased you mentioned citalopram (clitalopram as one of my pts used to call it, while I "smiled reassuringly")

Just came qcross a list of antidepressants that make you more susceptible to heat stroke.

Best Wishes Wendy

Glad you are OK Jed. Yes it was hot but only for a couple of days. I worked in London in 76 and had to travel by tube so do understand. That went on for nearly three months and all the resevoirs ran dry. Down yere it was only about 34.5 degrees according to my car but no tube trains to make you really sweat !lol 😁 "English officer WILL work. "(Bridge over the River Kwai)
