Hello sorry it’s me again. I M in apixaban Flecainade and bisoprol.....been since May, heading towards ablation end if year. Does anyone else get front of forehead headaches like eye strain from time to time? And light headiness on and iff? Is this the tablets?
Plus the cardio when he dud the 24 hour monitor said I get 10 second ish bouts of afib during the day that I don’t notice......has anyone been told this? Could this be why some mornings I wake up exhausted as if I’ve had a full afib attacks?
I’m planning a trip home to U.K. soon as I haven’t been back for so long I was so excited now I’m worried about all these things......

Hi Morazine I discovered by accident that I get a variety of different episodes of P- AF from the really long ones with pronounced symptoms to shorter ones lasting a few minutes that make me slightly breathless and some of which I am not aware at all but register when I do a blood pressure or pulse check . I think this is important to flag up because it emphasises the need for anticoagulation in those with a CHADS score who may unbeknown be getting episodes of P-AF.
I don't get headaches though but did in the first months of taking medication. You should mention them to your Doctor.
I thought I was well the day I did the 24 monitor.....but he saud it picked the tiny ones up.....yes as you say it makes the non clotting very important......
Hi Morzine, You sound very much like me! I have P AF, on 24hr monitor I had several short episodes during sleep that I was unaware of. I am on Apixaban, Metoprolol 50mg twice daily, and 50mg Flecainide at night. This has kept the AF away for long periods of time, sometimes for 5 months. I do not get headaches. I have had an ablation, it reduced the episodes for a few years, but they came back.
Everyone is different. I have had a few episodes where I have felt light headed and I take an extra Flecainide, this usually settles things back to normal. Most often my AF starts after eating my evening meal.....a co-incidence noted by quite a few people.
I am 78 now, and have just returned to Aust after three weeks in Europe, episode free!
I have been offered another ablation, but feel that the risk of a lengthy anaesthetic is not worth it at my age. I think it all depends on how severe your AF is, length and frequency of episodes, and whether you get short of breath, ankle swelling etc.
My son has had three ablations for the same thing, the most recent last week, he has P AF too, but has actually passed out twice, dropping to the floor, and my sister has had two ablations, and a maze procedure, she still gets prolonged AF and has required cardioversion several times. ? Familial, all of us told we have excitable hearts!
I do believe that Apixaban is a good anti coagulant and I have not had any problems with it. Hope this helps.

Nice to know you’ve flown to Europe and got on with life, I’d love to have another trip back to Aus at some point....I’d worry about the flight and afib although I tell myself “ look you genera,my are fine at the mo” there’s a stupid person living in my brain that gets scared, it’s not the real me. If that makes sense.....
Interesting you get the short bursts too, I wonder if that’s why I wake up feeling bodily weary.....
I’m in France,I’ve nit been asked this, it’s quite hard doing medical stuff here, the service is great and you get seen quick no waiting lists....but then understanding it all is quite a mission, I’m sure they can see my brain cogs on fire whrn im listening and absorbing it all......I do find myself gulping air in the night is that what it is?
Hi im also on flecanide and bisoprolol i get light headed now n then especially when i bend over for something, i asked my cardiologist n he said it was the tablets, i seem to get a few behind the eye migraines, i wear a fit bit and it shows some what i believe is short bouts of AF during the night, and sometimes i wake up feeling exhausted like ive run a marathon in my sleep lol, i do get them during the day but only now n then, they tend to be during the night for me, im just deciding weather or not to have another ablation, i go back to see my cardiologist in a few months, its not and it wouldn't stop me from flying/travelling though, ive booked a trip to spain for next may, keep planning and enjoy ur trip to home x
Yes that’s how I get lightheaded too. I think the tiny afib happening at night must then be the same as you. The other day I woke up and felt weary...
I’ve got to stop being silly about worrying about travel!,,,. We are definatly, going back to uk, can’t wait to have a curry, fish and chips and as we are goung to Cornwall fir a bit a Cornish pasty and cream tea!!...then fill the car up with marmite, mint sauce and gravy granules!...all I can’t get here and miss, plus stacks of decaf tea as you can’t buy decaf tea in France.......
Hello. I am on levy thyroxine, bisoprolol, Rivaroxaban and was on flecainide (also losartan and pravastatin in the evenings) and felt so well from the time I started the flecainide last December until after my ablation in March. My EP wanted me to stop the flecainide as soon as possible. From then on I keep getting palpitations, missed beats, and don't feel so good. I struggle on, but hard going.
I read of so many people on here still taking flecainide, but I can't get an answer from medics or anyone as to why my consultant thought I should stop taking the flecainide.
Yes I get this strange eye strain forehead ache and giddy feeling but I’m only on dabigatran twice daily since my third ablation on the 12th September. I didn’t know if it was nerves / anxiety causing it. Hope you feel better soon
