I think it is down to how often you have A.F. for example, if you only have episodes once every 6 months or so it might seem a bit excessive to take flecanide every day but if you had them every week or even every month it would be worth taking a daily dose. This is just an educated guess based on my own experience.x

Hi Karen

Not medically qualified, but I am guessing that if your rhyhtm needs constant control then you will take it daily, and if only when you have an episode then as pill in a pocket.

Be well

I think this is a very interesting question. I was taking 300mgs a day and this might be fine if it keeps you AF free but if it doesn't you have little to throw at the onset of a bout of AF. Since my ablation a couple of months ago, I have had my dose dropped and am currently on 50mgs twice a day. I'd be very reluctant to go back to taking a higher dose and I am hoping I can push flecainide out of my life as much as possible - but use it whenever needed as it can work a treat.

I take 100mg twice a day have only EVER had one episode since starting it and was never trialled on less than 100mg twice a day. Have recently posted re this so have got an appt to see GP. Also have never had an ECG apart from that one occasion and AFA leaflet ( which I've printed to take with me suggests 6 monthly ECGs. Hey Ho. Doesn't answer your question Karen which I would like answered too. Not meaning to high jack your post but also wondered if I would get a rebound effect if my dose was reduced after all this time with the electrics of my heart having been medically damped down over a long period.

Great question as I am new to AF and had no idea I had it thought it was only SVT, I wondered too. And another question I had, is it supposed to slow your heart down? Lots of stuff about how to take it and side effects not much on what it is supposed to do for you. I have been on it for almost a week and the only difference is that my heart feels sort of fluttery and weird now and ranges from high 80s to low 100s???? Sorry to hijack your post barnes12.
