Nocturia (frequent nightime urination) treatment

Hey Brothers,

I wanted to share something I found out through accident. Eating two prunes before bed has cured my nocturia - I only get up at 4 a.m. now for one pee at night. I discovered this by accident after reading that prunes are good for the bones. The article said to eat six prunes a day, which I did at once and an would not recommend unless you need to be cleaned out! I now instead have two with breakfast, two for a snack later, and two before bed - IMHO it's a miracle!

Anway, thought I'd share this because it has brought me so much relief - I hope it does for you gents who dream of a good night sleep as well.

Keep smiling my friends!

Nice find Herbie

Thank you for the tip.

Dam miracle! I’m getting some prunes! I’ve been the king of nocturnia over seven years . I just found this term a few days ago . I’ll let you know how pruny I get ? Thanks !

Well, I have a few ounces of prune juice with breakfast and dinner. Helps keep things moving, if you catch my drift. One thing has cut way down on my nocturnal bathroom trips. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. Using a CPAP machine seems to have eliminated the need for bathroom trips in the middle of the night. Not sure why.

anyone have any idea why eating prunes would help nocturia?

only guessing here but fecal matter in the bowels can apply pressure to the bladder?

I like prunes but they don't work for constipation (on me) as well as whole grain groats by themselves. Plus I'm minimizing dried fruit because I eat too much. But I do like prunes.

Try figs, the seeds provide much better action. You can buy the dried black mission figs at

Wal-Mart and they haven't soared in price like the other dried fruits.

That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard, so I guess I may as well try it.😃

Probably due to changes in intestinal motility. It surprised me as I got older how much a slight variation in bowel habits affected general health, especially after radiation. It takes a lot less to have pressure in the wrong places.

I'm looking for help with UTI-induced nocturnia. Up at least 5-6 times a night with burning urination. So tired of being tired all the time.

Try the prunes before bed, I take 2 and it does it, you may need 3. It works for me.

Does anyone knows what causes the burning urination? Mine started about 3 weeks ago after 2.5 years of the same treatment.

Hi HerbieP, do you take prunes from one specific brand or any brand is Ok? Thank you
