Proctitis Update 3, 4, and 5.

Well pain management, feels like a waste of time. My quality of life is no better than when I started, and I'm still in pain.

Medical Marijuana, after months of hit or miss I think I have found the right ratio of THC to CBD. 1 to 20. The 1 to 1 ratio wasn't doing much.

Now the big event in my life is Hyperbaric Chamber oxygen treatments. This was recommended to me by JoelT, he explains in his podcast much better than I can. I am now 6 sessions into a 30 session treatment and I think I can feel things moving in the right direction.

Fingers crossed.

Good luck, John.

Where did you find the 1:20 ratio?

Thanks,

Neal

I got it at the only clinic in Manhattan. In vape form they have 1;20, 1;1, and 20;1. I think the last one would be good if you wanted to take a 14 hour nap on the couch.

Thank you, John. I guess I'm more of a 5:1 guy, when I can get it. Where I am, near Oakland, CA, there are many dispensaries.

NYS is really half-assing the whole Medical MJ program. There are only 2 dispensaries in NYC. It's insane.

I'm sorry to hear that. Sounds like the upstate folks are running the show. I've been driving a short distance into Oakland, where I often go anyway. There are several there & more in Berkeley. My dispensary in Oakland also delivers. Any day now, they're opening a branch here in San Leandro (pop. 87,700), where a 2nd dispensary has already been approved & a 3rd may also be.

My husband had severe radiation proctitis years ago - became extremely anemic, in addition to continuous bleeding he would pass blood clots the size of small eggs. Radiofrequency ablation had just been approved by the FDA for this condition and he was one of the first to have the surgery after clinical trials. He only needed a bit of touch up after his first surgery and has had no problem since then (ca. 6 years). Dr. Scott Corbett in Sarasota did the surgery. I strongly recommend you research RF ablation. I no longer have a bleeding problem but it took two different procedures at two Hospitals to make it stop. After that things got really bad.

John, Let us know what the end results of are from the Hyperbaric Chamber.

FYI - If anyone wants to know, as referenced by John I have been making a number of pod casts about cancer and specifically prostate cancer Malecare. They include interviews with docs, researchers and a number of them are discussions about many of the issues we all face fighting this disease such as dealing with including items like proctitis, hormone therapy, etc. They are available, as always for free, on iTunes or by going to:

Long term follow up.

Well the hyperbaric chamber didn’t do much for the proctitis, but it may have delayed the onset of cystitis by a few years. But now it’s here with a vengeance. Besides having a catheter for the last two weeks and two nights in the hospital it is only slightly better. So yesterday I started another round of hyperbaric chamber treatments and may have to have up 100 sessions to fix the damage done by the radiation 3 1/2 years ago. The gift that keeps on giving.

Hi John!

Just wanted to say, hang in there.

The hyperbaric treatments really helped me.

There was a patient doing the same treatment that also had a catheter.

I kept in touch with him. After 60 treatments he finally got better and the catheter was removed and no more bleeding or clots.

Good Luck and Best Wishes!

Lavis

Hi John438, Just Completed 40 treatments for hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Some improvement but still having heavy rectal bleeding. Tried suppositories that didn’t work. Same result with Argon plasma. GI Dr was very conservative after 1st treatment failed. Tried again after HBOT but Dr decided to not treat. At the moment I don’t have a plan for next treatment. Not interested in surgery of any kind.

Not ready to give up so any readers have ideas or suggestions?

Best to everyone. Never Give Up!

After my 159th hyperbaric treatment I came home and proceeded to pass some major blood clots while urinating, I had one more treatment to go but at that point it seemed like a waste of time to go for one time. About two weeks later I wound up back in the ER unable to urinate because of the clots. A year ago in January I had an artificial urinary sphincter implanted. It was the only procedure to work in the last 7 years of Prostate treatments. It stopped the incontinence and I very happy to be wearing big boy underwear again. And yes I have been taking baby aspirin for the last 35 years. It didn’t help the clots at all.
