504 accommodations in high school for anxiety/depression?! The school is not being supportive. What do I need to know going into the 504 meeting?

504 plan in High School
I'm just going through the IEP and 504 accommodation process with my almost 12 year old who was diagnosed with bipolar and then depression/anxiety and ADHD inattentive. I was given a list of 504 accommodations and sample IEP plans from the Doc that did her neuropsych eval. I found this 504 accommodations list online. warmlinefrc.org/uploads/5/9...
There are a lot of lists online, but I like this one. Good luck to us both!
Just curious if you are working with the school psychologist? If it is just general people at the school I am not sure they would know how to deal with this type of a plan.
Good luck.
My 14 year old freshman has a 504 but is getting tested at the school for an IEP. She suffers from ADHD, depression, anxiety, and ODD. We are not feeling positive about getting an IEP so we've hired an advocate and are getting an independent eval. Her school is completely insensitive and can care less about her disabilities. Very frustrating process.
I am so sorry to hear any parent feel.this way.
Just curious is you have contacted the Special Education department, which is most likely at another location.
Unfortunately, I hear of families not having a lot of support until "Specialist" come in then everyone tends to listen.
I will also say there are pro's and con's about having an advocate.
I hope you get support for your child and without to much stress.
Her school doesn't believe her disabilities affect her learning enough to get an IEP since she got almost straight A's last year at a school that didn't give homework and let kids turn in work late at anytime. We are going to fight to get mental health support. It can't just be on the parents to micromanage their ADHD kids life and get psych support on our own. Schools need to be held accountable and provide support. She can't roam around a campus of 2500 students basically unnoticed.
Just curious did you put in writing and submit the request for assessment to the Special Education department (not the school)?
So my son has a 504 in place... did you get the IEP testing? To get his baseline academics... I would talk to his teachers and see if they notice where his weak areas are in social/emotional/academic heck all the way around. My school took two years to test my daughter but the high school tested my son within a month. He wasnt eligible for an IEP but the 504 he was. Make sure they do the evaluation first. I have some links to articles and forms you should have if your on facebook.
