Which causes the most holiday stress for you and/or your family?
It is most difficult when we don't have a set schedule in place. The holidays are a time when schedules can be put on hold some days just depending on what we have to do. I try to keep my son's days structured which does help with the impulsiveness aspect of ADHD.
It is honestly most difficult to be on Christmas break with my 2 children home while hubby is at work because my son who has ADHD and Emotional dysregulation and my daughter has a feeding pump with 22 hr feeds. They are 10 and 11 and argue alot. I am a teacher, so it can be frustrating; especially after having to deal with disruptive children at work. I try to limit screen time duringthe breaks , and hopefully my son goes in his room and plays with his trains, transformers, hot wheels, and builds a city with his Legos. He gets lost in his own world, but goes berserk if you "mess something up" , even though it can be quickly corrected.
So two weeks off with them. Prayerfully all goes well. Thank goodness for his medication.
Deciding on gifts for everyone. Including the child w ADHD...buying gifts that are appropriate for age vs wants
For us, it is the lack of structured routine that the holidays can bring that cause the most challenge. As a teacher, I look forward to be less structured during my break because for the rest of the time I am managed by a bell every hour of my day. This is what my child wants too, but it is directly opposite to what my child needs.
