methotrexate

i have had a chest infection for over 8 weeks. I have had two lots of antibiotics, and stopped methotrexte at the time.

I went to the docs tuesday, monday i take methotrexate, so i am wondering what the side effects are as i took the methotrexate a day before the antibiotics.

Anyone does this ?

doc just said dont take methotrexate with antibiotics, i should of said i took methotrexate on Monday! But didnt!

There is no interaction, it’s purely the fact that the methotrexate will make it more difficult to clear the infection. Havd you been off it the previous 8 weeks, as you should always hold off MTX when on antibiotics. If you didn’t, it probably explains why you’re still struggling 8 weeks on. You need to stop, so your immune system recovers somewhat to fight infections

yes i have been off antibiotics 8 weeks before, but just cant get rid of this chesty cough so on again for another 5 days!

With it being just the one dose after 8 weeks off, you should be fine 👍

I had a chest infection requiring two lots of antibiotics but didn’t know I should have stopped the methotrexate. It took a long time to recover!

i always get my sputum checked (if coughing up mucus) to make sure I get the correct antibiotics. 😞

I don’t know you could do that? Where do you get the check done?

I just ask Dr for a sputum pot…he does the form, then drop it back to surgery. I know when I have an infection as have so many. It does take 3 days for the lab report to come back. Getting the right antibiotic is key.

I’m on my 3rd lot of antibiotics after chest infection still coughing after 6weeks I was not advised by doctor to stop taking methotrexate realise now why it hasn’t cleared up

Someone prompted me to do the sputum test….the Dr didnt think of it!😞
