Mood stabilizers for ocd

Anyone take mood stabilizers in addition to anti depressants for their Ocd?

I experienced a trauma. As a result, I have been diagnosed with manic depression and Ocd. In addition to Prozac, it was suggested that I take either a mood stabilizer or an anti psychotic. I am petrified of both but if I thought it would help my ocd and ruminating thoughts, I would give it a try as I am desperate for relief.

Hi Returntonormal7 - I believe that Sallyskins takes an anti-psychotic med in addition to Sertraline. Normally she jumps in on these questions all the time, but I haven't seen her as much lately. You might want to search in some of her past posts for this.

I, agree with sunn e , miss Sallyskins is a wealth of information. I am bipolar and OCD as well as PTSD and schizophrenic, yeah I struggle every single day. Sometimes the pain is so severe I will do anything to stop the repetition and despair. I have been prescribed seroquel and lithium as well as lamictal in the past and currently depakote as mood stabilizers. Sertraline and trazodone are also in my mix right now. Fear to me now is a lack of faith or confidence in yourself. You have nothing to be afraid of. My OCD comes in waves, and right now I'm going through a terrible repetition and repeating everything. I am also having a severe depression right now. I am working diligently with my doctor to somewhat resolve this problem. I say somewhat because after being this way for over 40 years I try not to make any expectations . GOD luck.

We are in the process of increasing the sertraline . Dr. said that sertraline should help with the depression and the symptoms of OCD.

Currently 100mg ,I will be increased to 150. I take it in the morning and I have to take 150 trazadone to help with the sleep. I have to take lorazepam also 2mg during the day. It's a PROBLEM for us because the side effects of 1 beneficial drug causes me to have to take another to counter effect the other.
