Toronto Prostate Cancer Specialist for Dad

My dad (68 years old) is visiting me (For my delivery in the first week of June) from India and he is going to be in Ontario, Canada for the next 3 months.

He was diagnosed in Feb 2024 with a PSA of 24 and is completely asymptomatic. He is on hormone therapy with Gleason 8 and distant mets in his bones (no visceral organs). He is responding well to the medicines and is on Zytiga + Prednisone (5 mg). He got a bilateral orchidectomy done as well, so no Lupron.

I wanted to get recommendations for oncologists especially those dealing with Prostate cancer in Ontario, Canada. Please help. Thank you.

Dr Lawrence Klotz in Sunnibrook is the best of the best in Canada. He is a great researcher .I dont know if he is available for consultation. No harm in trying to reach him to find out.

You may want to try calling around, but I imagine it will be very difficult for him to see a specialist so soon in Canada, esp. if he’s not a citizen. Even to pay out of pocket, it is a very long wait. My dad is stage 4, mets to spine (diagnosed in late Jan/feb.) the earliest we would be able to see someone at Princess Margaret would have been nearly 4 months after diagnosis. So we are doing a hybrid model between a couple hospitals and oncologist team. He isn’t a candidate for surgery, and isn’t doing chemo - so I can’t speak to that, but he is getting his radiation done at Credit Valley (one of the busiest hospitals for PC radiation in GTA), and so far we really like his radiation oncologist Dr. Chiang - never rushes us (and I ask 1 million questions), demonstrates compassion, explains options thoroughly. Princess Margaret hospital in Toronto is a cancer hospital. Sunnybrook is just as excellent re cancers. Odette cancer center. I don’t know process is you’re not a Canadian citizen. Good luck and best wishes to u and your Dad.
