It's been 9 weeks since I've been on carbizamole and my hyperthyroidism levels are just about within range. I wake up ridiculousy stressed out and all day I'm struggling. Is this the thyroid or the carbimazole? Will it improve? What do you do to help with this? thanks

Hi Zoe12,

Increased anxiety has been the hardest thyroid symptom to manage for me. I have seen a steady improvement since optimising my thyroid medication & key vitamins (folate, ferritin, B12 and Vit D. In addition, taking magnesium daily (I find dosing early evening helps me relax), being gluten free & practising mindfulness, Pilates and journalling (ie writing positive thoughts) all help me.

I’m so much better than I was, although did have a dip with peri menopause, when I needed to add HRT.

I need my thyroid medication & key vitamins to be optimal and if I need to make adjustments (either increase or decrease) I do this super slowly as my anxiety levels can flare. Can you share your thyroid blood test and any key vitamin results with us?

Hi Zoe12, what were your test results? I found that I had a T4 'sweet spot' when I was on carbimazole and it took many blood tests and fine tuning to find it. I expect that spot will be different for everyone. Buddy195 makes some excellent diet and lifestyle suggestions. Its taken me many years to realise how important these things are. Managing thyroid problems is not just a case of popping a pill. Stress and cortisol has a huge impact on thyroid hormones, as does having vitamin and mineral deficiencies. These are things you have control of, and can do something about. I have recently gone gluten free, and personally, that has made a huge difference to my state of mind. Identifying dietary intolerances is so important to reduce inflammation, which affects the whole body including the brain.
