I am considering proton therapy radiation for my DICS cancer found in the left breast. Six months ago, I had a dissection B - TAVAR for a torn aorta. I am very concerned about the radiation penetrating to heart and lungs.
The main concern is if proton therapy radiation is so advanced, why is the standard 25 to 32 sessions when 4 inches of your breast has been removed along with the lump? I understand radiation will be done in the lymph nodes, but why 25 to 32 sessions besides money?
The second concern is, why estrogen blocker treatment for 5-10 years besides money to the establishment?

Hi, I would ask questions such as, What is the percentage or ratio of prolonging life with both methods of radiation? Which one will be more effective, and the value of this treatment over the side effects? Or does it make sense to do it at all? Just know you have options, and the choice is yours. Here is an article from the Mayo Clinic.
