Tinnitus help

I have found out recently after accusing my neighbours of using loud machinery that I have tinnitus. I hear two types of noise mostly it's a fast heart beat sound and sometimes it's together with a sound like a gale blowing both sounds start first thing in the morning and get louder in the day. The sounds never stop and it's very scary. Has anyone else had this? I am waiting for a hospital appointment but fear it may take a long time. I am very new to health unlocked.

Ya I have it... loud ringing or motor sounding whan whan whan...

You mentioned that u hear a heartbeat sound? That could be your own heartbeat increasing when you get upset... try calming yourself and clearing your mind... I do this in a hot bath where my muscles relax, I feel safe in a warm water hug and my neck and shoulders relax in warm water.. my tinnitus is caused by too much salt, stress/tension in my shoulders and neck which is from injury and anxiety and my stress from it all...

Have u tried laying down with a heat pad on neck and a warm cloth on forehead and eyes? Deep breathing or guided meditation to get your body to relax? It does help and can reduce the intensity of the sound in your head/ears....

Try not to worry or get anxious about it... it’s not uncommon nor serious.... it can be managed.

Thanks for your advice I will try and relax but it's very strange as a newcomer to tinnitus, in the middle of the night I get woken up by what I think is a fire alarm it's so loud, I live in a small block of flats and go to the window to check , of course it's not it is the tinnitus.

Yes it’s hard at times... it takes some getting used to it... don’t worry though cuz stress can make it worse. 😊

Thanks again I will try to relax but it's hard to ignore the constant noise.

Hi Guys, I giggled when you said listen to music CanukAnon, I hear music, radio, awful usually. I literally thought we had a local drunk going around singing pub singer style.

My husband has Tinnitus with a loud ‘squeaky’ sound and says mine isn’t tinnitus but a thing called ‘audible hallucinations’ don’t do drugs(illegal) but make up for it with plenty of the prescribed ones, mostly for pain and nerve damage, don’t know if this could be related ??

Do you have normal hearing loss or hearing disease? I have meineres disease and when this acts up (severe tintinutis and complete deafness) I take a B vitamin called Lipoflavnoid plus and after a couple of days the tintinutis is (almost) non existent and my hearing starts to come back .... I'm deaf in one ear only 40% hearing in the other ear.

Hello , my hearing loss is age related . It's quite bad now but my hearing aids are a great help. Strangely the tinnitus noise seems to give me 1 day a week off , no special day and for no reason . Take care

Three things.

Check for wax in your ears. This can cause you to be aware of sounds that do not exist. The wax on ear drum attached to a piece of skin over a blood vessel will convey the blood vessel pulsing to the ear drum and you will hear sound that does not exist.

See a chiropractor. There could be pressure on one of the cranial nerves. The pressure could act on the nerve causing sound to be heard that does not exist.

A visit to a dentist to check for jaw problems may or may not be helpful.

By flexing certain muscles I can create tinnitus in my ears.

I have have had the joy not of having sound caused by ear wax. It played havoc with my sleep.

The cranial nerve is something I read someway. Unfortunately I do not know where.

Hello thanks for your concern. How do you know about the wax on the eardrum that sounds very possible. Do you know what sort of doctor can tell me this .

in reply to johnsmith

Sorry to trouble you again do you know about pulsatile tinnitus.?

I will attempt to answer both questions. I have looked up " pulsatile tinnitus" on google. The description sounds like the sounds I had when I had the ear wax problem.

I had these sounds which became very noticeable when I was trying to go to sleep. It then progressed into minor earache as well. Saw the doctor who found the earwax problem. Softened the earwax with olive oil and the wax removed by nurse. No more sounds.

I have physicist training so know a little bit about pressure on ear drum by sound waves. I have also 'A' level biology and have done a little bit of biophysics at university.

You ask what sort of doctor can tell you this. I do not the know the answer to this.

You just have get earwax removed. See the chiropractor and see a dentist. It is called personal investigation to find out what works.

GP can refer to Ear Nose and throat clinic for diagnosis using medical technology. A GP should examine your ears first. Medical doctors do not know very much about how muscles affect things.

Thank you so much I will do as you suggest.
