Contrast ultrasound for liver hemangioma?

Hi me again. I had a normal ultrasound which detected a possible liver hemangioma. The hospital are sending me for a contrast ultrasound to confirm. Online it looks like an MRI is the usual way to confirm this.

Is a contrast dye ultrasound as effective? Thanks.

I have to say that I had not heard of a contrast ultrasound but have looked it up and it seems like a great option.

My hemangioma was first seen in ultrasound and the only reason it was later confirmed on ct scan is because I needed the scan for another issue. I don’t think they would have ordered a ct scan specifically to double check the hemangioma.

I need to have further checks on my liver and I’ll ask about the enhanced ultrasound options

Oh no please don’t be. I would have wanted them to check.

This was 10 years ago. Since that incidental mri, I’ve only had two ultrasounds (I have fatty liver)

For the next check I’ll enquirer about the contrast option

I have never heard of a contrasting ultrasound scan either. I have had numerous contrasting MRI/CT scans though. From what I remember they are used to assess the blood supply and how the veins have formed to supply the blood to the affected area. If you are in the uk you could contact the nurse on the liver trust site, they may be able to help.
