3 Day Ventilation and Sedation After Aortic Valve Replacement?

My consultant surgeon want to keep me on ventilation and sedation for 3 days following aortic valve replacement.

Has anyone else had a valve replacement surgery were they were told they had to be ventilated and sedated for 3 days following surgery?

Ventilation damages the lungs and those who are ventilated following surgery have poorer outcomes according to every single research paper I read on pub, med!

No I don't have a date yet.

I don't know exactly why they want to sedate for 3 days after surgery, but the surgeon did say he didn't want me awake incase I bleed out.

I sort advice today of another cardiac nurse specialist not connected to the Trust, she was not at all happy with the way I was being treated and suggested I seek a second opinion from someone in a different part of the country. We have discussed this with my family and are considering moving to a different part of the UK.

I don't want to go into detail but the nurse raised a concern over my safety and didn't think it was safe for me to receive surgery at that trust.

I have taken this advice seriously, so seriously that I may relocate to a different part of the UK to access the specialist care I need.

The nurse I spoke to was exceptional, she gave me the most amazing support, this situation is very complex and is difficult to deal with, and I will be forever grateful for the support and advice she gave me.

Thank you.

I created a timeline for my GP with the dates of scans and appointments with my consultant and surgeon.

My GP was shocked so many times, and he has agreed to refer me to another Trust.

Hopefully this will move things along in the right direction.

While I'm waiting I have been looking at supplements that are good for the heart. There is one that may be useful for people undergoing valve replacement surgery, so I've ordered a book about it to find out more.

Can you tell me what supplement you have been looking at - I have just been diagnosed with aortic valve regurgitation following an echocardiogram but haven't seen or heard from my GP yet - I will contact them next week. So, I don't know how severe it is or anything else.
