Hi, I'm new to the group and needed some advice or to see if anyone has ever experienced this. I'm 33 years post op of open heart surgery, my doctors are baffled I have had a cough for 10 weeks after 3 doses of antibiotics, xray, blood test etc 3 covid tests and my 1st covid injection. It's a dry non presitant cough which as you can imagine is getting me down. The women who did the xray said it might not show up on the xray but I could have scar tissue damage from the scar of my first operation 32 years ago causing the cough. Can anyone shed some light? THE SURGARY I HAD WERE COARCTIATION REPAIR AND PA BANDING, ARTERIAL SWITCH OPERATION & VSD CLOSURE AND PA RECONSTRUCTION X

How severe is the cough ? If it comes in episodes that are really severe and then settles and you feel well in between see if you could get checked for whooping cough after 10 weeks it would probably need to be a blood test. Even with childhood immunisation to whooping cough the immunity wears off in adulthood. Thankfully adults don’t get it as severe as children, however I had it in my 40s and it was horrendous, I fractured rib through coughing. It’s known as the 100 day cough and it certainly felt like it lasted that long. Unfortunately there isn’t much that can settle it other than time but if it is that at least it would put your mind at rest that you had a reason for it.
It must be driving you mad esp after having open heart surgery.
Hope things settle soon.
Thank you for the reply. I have actually started violently vomiting this morning so I'm going to see the doctor again today.
