pseudomonas

Hi there,

Has anyone been on nebulised colomycin long term and then just suddenly stopped? Can this bug really be eradicated or it is just that the number count gets too low to show up in the lab?

Thanks in advance for any help.

hello Kerrieblue I also nebulise twice a day for pseudomonas. As far as I know this is purely to keep the little blighters at bay

Thanks for your reply. My new consultant wants me to stop this long term treatment for the summer but my worry is that the “little blighters” will rampage, can I ask how long you have been on this for?

I’ve been on it for 6 months now, not long I know but would love to end it. I have an app at the hospital at the end of June so I’ll know more then. I have noticed the sputum has lightened in colour. Presumably that is a good sign. Has this happened to you ?

Sadly not. I wish you well at your appointment.

I have nebulised colomycin for six years and don’t think my consultant has any intention of letting me stop. I should say I’m immune compromised so I’m extremely ill if I get an infection. My consultant told me that pseudomonas likes to lurk in the corners of your lungs waiting to multiply. He also said it hangs around in places like the drain from your sink. Having said all that people without lung conditions can have it with no ill effects. I hope you get on okay whatever you decide to do. Please let us know how you do get on.

Thank you, I feel stopping is the wrong thing to do. I wish you well

A tricky one! Pseudomonas is a great lurker. I had it for a year before it was diagnosed and was really ill. I used Colomycin for six months then felt a lot better however I feel I may have it back.i get tired of the nebuliser but it is the only way!

Thanks for your reply. I feel stopping could allow it to gain strength, wishing you well
