Multaq Side Effects

Been on 400mg of Multaq bid for a month now and have had few issues with it so far but what I have noticed is that an hour or so after taking it I become extremely fatigued to the point I have to lie down for a nap. Is this something others have experienced? I was on Amiodarone for 6 months and had zero side effects and it did its job. I almost want to go back on amiodarone.

On multaq approx 4 years , loads of tiredness , but it was there long before i ever took it, so hard to know if it has added to problem.

On Dronedarone since December. Wasn't keen. Burt recently AF under better control Fingers crossed! Would rather have the tiredness than 16 hours in AF.

Only issue is think it's affecting my skin. Not sure if bisoporol is the cause has anyone had skin issues with these two meds?

on multaq now for about 4 months, had lot of stomach issues in the beginning and they subsided after about 2 months.Yes I too have bouts of strange feelings after taking the pill, sometimes fatigue, the other time feeling flushed, but overall these symptoms appear to have been subsiding in their intensity after about three months since the initiation of the drug.

Stay patient and positive it likely will get better with time

I was on Amiodarone for a few years and I had skin problems. The drug wasn’t that effective for me. I was switched to Multaq about 12 years ago when it first came out and I now have paroxysmal AF. I also take bisoporol which I think causes my skin irritation. I have not associated fatigue with the medication but most certainly with the AF itself. The Multaq for me has had a low side effect bar so was pleased with that.

Hi Foreverfibber,

I have been on Amiodarone now for the last 8 months (2nd time),and only recently had my dosage reduced from 200mg daily to 100mg daily, after constant "whingeing" to the Cardiologists about breathing issues (exacerbating asthma and COPD) and total lack of energy, and hence a problem even walking further than to the front gate (~ 20yards). I hate the stuff and look forward to the day I can stop it. (I am hoping for some CRT therapy/physiological pacing soon).

It clearly works in slowing down the heart rate, but all the other side effects have to be considered, along with impact on "Quality of Life".

Best wishes.

There is no magic panacea. With this cursed condition you have to take the good with the bad and there seems to be more bad than good.

I have been on dronedarone for 18 months with minimal side effects . Was also on it for about a year previously but it eventually stopped working and the AF beast broke through in a persistent manner . I would love to come off as who knows what the long term effects are and I’m only 59 . However day 2 of only a partially successful complex ablation and the EP feels I should stay on it longer term . Not happy 😪

Why did they take you off ?

They took me off the amiodarone over concerns of potential side effects but I was not experiencing any at the time.
