Ablation

Had my telephone appointment with the doctor at John Radclffe Hostital oxford a couple of weeks ago. H, as I expect is normal went through all the risks and asked me questions on my afib. Atthe ned he said I could have a ablation so I said yes.

had aht eletter sent to me today and it say my local hospital GWH swindon has got to do a ambulatory ECG to look for conduction abnormalities, I had to look that one up!! I expect that appointment will be in a few weeks and then I presume once results are sent to JRH I got to wait for a appoinment for the ablation.

Since I do not think my one is urgent it will be a long wait. I should of asked but I forgot so I am expecting at least 6 months if not longer. In the mean time no point in worrying about it and just deal with it when the time comes. I did tell my wife about 2 weeks rest and 3 months to fully recover therefore I will not be able to make cups of T or help with housework etc. I will not print what her reply was. I did say I will have man flu but did not work either 😒😒😒

I was referred to the JR in Oxford for an ablation by the Great Western after a successful cardioversion... the wait was around 8 months. As for recovery after an ablation, it's an individual thing but I'd assume you won't be up to doing much for two weeks. It's been nearly five weeks for me and I'm only now feeling more normal, but I have been back in AF for all but the first two days.

Good luck. The team at JR are great, you're in safe hands.

Hi JoDogBlue,

I see you had a successful cardioversion, good. My understanding is that you get offered an ablation if your arrhythmia isn’t “cured” after a number of cardioversions

Disappointed your atrial fibrillation has returned after (I know you’ll be even more disappointed about it!) after your ablation Any idea why they seem to have gone to an ablation for you straight away?

My first cardioversion is due next week for atrial flutter, not A. fibrillation

Take care - effsweet

My understanding is that a single successful cardioversion is enough to indicate that an ablation would be the next step for atrial fibrillation. Although I'm back in AF after my ablation I'm hopeful a cardioversion will get me back on track. I'm still in the three month 'blanking period' where things haven't settled but if it turns out I need a further ablation so be it, I don't think that would be that unusual. Good luck with your cardioversion!

Currently 29 weeks since my appointment/ start of waiting list, latest indications are it could happen week 35 earliest. Physically not a problem apart from not knowing when the next AF episode will pop up, it just feels like life is on hold for the time being, can't comfortably plan ahead, and it doesn't just affect me, there's the support team to think about (don't tell her I called her that).

🤣 Best wishes for the ablation and getting the ‘convalescent treatment’. Don’t tell your wife I was in the Supermarket the week after mine and ‘did Christmas’ for the family 10 days after though have to say it wasn’t a good idea.
