Hair Loss on NDT

Hi can anyone shed some light on my continuous hair loss. It was one of my symptoms with my hypothyroidism. I started Thyroid-s and it eventually stopped but then started again about two months ago, otherwise I feel great, infact better than I have in years. I take 1. & 3/4 grains AM and 1 & 1/2 in PM I read a lady said that ndt can cause hair loss. Is this common? My last labs were good. I will do another test in a few weeks but I have thin hair anyway and getting worried as it’s not stopping. Please help.

what are your most recent thyroid and vitamin results

Especially iron and ferritin

Low ferritin often causes hair loss

Hi Slowdragon, thanks for replying. My last results were good I am in ferritin tablets and my last results are in my previous posts but I don’t know how to access them and post here. When I return home next week I am having another thyroid panel done. As I say I feel great so not expecting to see much. But if the ndt could be causing hair loss then I don’t know what I will do.

Previous post 8 months ago with results here …..but no ferritin result visible

8 months is too long ago anyway

So if not retested since then it’s time to get new test done

You need full iron panel as well to check iron levels

It’s possible to have high ferritin but low iron

Test early morning, only water to drink between waking and test. Avoid high iron rich dinner night before test

If taking iron supplements….Stop 5-7 days before testing

Medichecks iron panel test

Vitamin D is also needed for hair, and it was not very high 8 months ago, seeing from your labs. I read optimal is top of the range, but if you take high doses of vit D, you should take magnesium and K2 with it to prevent calcium from building up in the blood instead of going to the bones. Biotin and zinc are also important for hair.

Also, what batch nr are you on? There have been some problems with Thyroid S batches since 2022. Even if you feel well on it, it would be good to note the batch(es) starting three months before the hairloss returned. It usually takes that long for hair to respond to any treatment.

Thanks, I am away so on return I will check my batch. I had to up my dose as it was not as strong this last batch. My friend did the same. I just started vit d with k2 and always have magnesium so let’s see if that helps. Thank you
