Trying Thyroid s for the last few weeks. Started off at half a tablet a day for about 2 weeks and then increased to 1 tablet a day. New blood test have shown liver doesn't seem to like it. Alanine transaminase 75 (range 0-34). Alkaline phosphatase 159 (range 30-130). TSH now 0.08 was 3.71, free T3 4.9 was 4.5 , free T4 12.9 was 14.3. Can anyone please advise?

TSH now 0.08 was 3.71, free T3 4.9 was 4.5 , free T4 12.9 was 14.3.

These results are showing the effect of adding T3: TSH suppressed and FT4 reduced. That's what T3 does.

Can't say any more than that because you haven't given the ranges. :)

Hello thanks for the reply - the ranges are TSH 0.3-4.2Free T3 2.4-6

Free T4 9-23

I am concerned about the liver - is this normal when you first start taking NDT?

So, your FT3 is on the low-side, you probably need an increase in dose.

I'm afraid I know nothing about the liver, nor the effects of NDT on it.

You will need to test FULL thyroid and vitamin levels 6-8 weeks after being on constant unchanging dose

Looking at previous posts…..you weren’t on any replacement thyroid hormones before this?

Are you splitting your dose as 1/2 grain twice a day

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

NDT or T3 ….day before test split T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day, with last dose approximately 8-12 hours before test

Hello thanks for the reply. No I have never been on any thyroid medication before. I did this blood test at 9 a.m. no food or drink. Have I taken things too quickly? I gave it 2 weeks going from half a tablet - morning before food and then 1 whole tablet morning before food. I had none on the day of the blood test. I had about 3 days where I felt an improvement. It's more the liver results I am concerned about. I've never had any blood tests that have shown any out of range results before so I am thinking it is the thyroid s that is causing issues.

you tested too soon

Also my creatine is now 50 - range 55-110 so below range.

I also think you tested too soon. But FT4 is supposed to go up, not down. Ideally it should be at least halfway the range. FT3 should be in the upper quartile and TSH will become suppressed, so below range.

I don't know anything about the connection with the liver. Which batch nr are you on?

I will have a look at the batch and post later on. I would have left the testing but had a comprehensive blood screening from my doctor because of another issue and I saw the liver results were way out of range. I have read on this site about fillers in tablets not agreeing with people and I am wondering if it's this affecting the liver and wanted to know if anyone else has had this.

What does your doctor say about the liver, can liver levels respond that fast to any medication?

I don't know yet I have to make a phone appointment. I've been reading up and I certainly think that it could be the thyroid s tablets. I haven't been taking anything else except prescription medication that I've been taking for years. I know that when people are on this site they test thyroid hormones but probably not liver. It's only by chance that I had my liver ranges checked. It's not alcohol related as I don't drink any alcohol.

Where did you read about the connection? Did your dentist say anything? They are aware of what can cause dry mouth and subsequent cavities.
