help needed with new blood test results. It is 6 weeks since i have been on 100 levothyroxine and introduced Liothyronine 10mcg daily. Before the test I followed protocol, no medication before, no b vitamins for week before etc. I am pleased that my ferritin has improved but unsure about T3 levels?

Ferritin 46.4 13 - 150

TSH 0.72 0.27 - 4.20

T4 Total 71.5 66 - 181

Free T4 14.3 12.0 - 22.0

Free T3 3.86 3.1 - 6.8

Anti-Thyroidperoxidase 344 <34

last test results were

Ferritin 23 13 - 150

TSH 3.77 0.27 - 4.2

Free T4 18 12.0 - 22.0

Free T3 3.1 3.1 - 6.8

no T4 Total result

Anti-Thyroidperoxidase 352 <34

Thanks as ever!

It's early days in your trial of T3, you have made some improvement in your T3 level and your FT4 level has decreased as is often the case. Did you leave time gap before test of 24 hours for Levo and did you split the 10mcg T3 into 2 doses the day before and the last dose was 8-12 hours before your blood test?

When are you seeing your endo again and is he going to be increasing your dose of T3?

Ferritin still has a way to go, what are you doing about this as your serum iron, saturation and TIBC were excellent when you did your iron panel and showed that you don't need to take iron or you risked your serum iron and saturation going too high.

What about the other key nutrients - Vit D, B12 and folate?

Combo meds can be a tricky journey requiring lots of small tweaks of each hormone to find the right balance for you. Patience is required and I'm not sure that endos actually know that sometimes it's necessary to fine tune both hormones.

can you explain the splitting the t3 into 2 doses the day before. I just took it as normal with the Levo in the morning the day before

How do you feel? Important question!

Thyroid antibodies are high suggesting Hashimoto's

Gluten free diet helps many with Hashi's

Hashi's can cause hormone levels to fluctuate

Both Frees are low.... adding T3 will lower both FT4 and pituitary hormone TSH

Have you optimised vit D, vit B12, folate and ferritin....all essential to support thyroid function.

I'd suggest you add another 25mcg levo, work on nutrients and re -test in 6 weeks

Then adjust dose probably then increasing T3 by 5mcg

Just a few thoughts!
