Hi Lana, have you asked the people from rls.org? You are not new to the forum, so I think you know about them etc. Otherwise, I hope people from your state will respond with good suggestions. Do ask the same question in the rls.org forum, as it may be seen by more US people.

I do hope you find a solution. I assume changing to methadone will not make it easier?

I actually have done a search on their site often and nothing comes up near me, but I didn't think to post my question on their site, as well. Great idea! Thank you, Lotte!

And contact the office or Karla Dzienkowski. And for SC this support group is listed: Aiken Support Group, (803) 522-6526.

Good luck.

Presumably you checked out SueJohnson 's past suggestion of Dr. Donald Schmechel in West Columbia SC and found that he couldn't help? It's useful to know negatives as well as positives!

I also gave her a new suggestion as she messaged me.

Yes, but the problem is that I have wasted so much time and money on multiple appointments with new doctors only to get to the end of the appt and be told that they don't prescribe buprenorphine, which is literally the ONLY medicine that controls my RLS. So I was hoping that maybe someone might know of a doctor in my state who prescribes buprenorphine or who can find something that will help me. I just keep striking out and time is running out. 😭😭😭

Terrible situation, and I can't find anything useful bashing through search engines.

Are you a member of the RLS Foundation? There are some additional resources available via the Member Portal which - although they probably can't help with this specific issue - could be helpful in the long run, and you might also get a better response as a member if you do as Lotte suggested and contact director Karla Dzienkowski (karla@rls.org). I don't know whether Karla or one of the other staff *could* offer any useful help, but nothing ventured (and organisations like this and RLS UK need our support to lobby for better services...)

Have you registered separately to use their discussion board? You don't have to be a Foundation member to use it (I'm not and do occasionally...): OK, it tends not to be as well used or as responsive as here, but you know that only a proportion of the members here are US based. Registration can take a day or two...

Have you tried to contact the Aiken Support Group that Lotte found from the link below (I can't find anything more) or tried to register for one of the regular zoom support groups:

rls.org/get-involved/find-s...

Have you tried contacting the QCC at Emory Sleep Center in Atlanta? I know that the RLS.org link says that they're not accepting new patients, but it's said that for ages. And I know that there are big issues with out of state prescribing and you might have to physically go there every 3 months which might be impossible...

I wish that I could give you some real help!

Thank you so much, Chris!! You are so sweet to look for all these options for me. I will follow up on these.

are you anywhere near GA? I’m in SC but at the state line between GA and SC. I go to Wellstar Augusta University Health, Neurology Department.

Do you get a prescription for an opioid in Georgia and will they honor it in SC? This would be useful information for me to have because I keep a record of those that do?

Hooked77 profile image
Hooked77 in reply to SueJohnson

I do not take an opioid but being on the state line of GA and SC, prescriptions are honored in my area that are written in Augusta, GA

SueJohnson profile image
SueJohnson in reply to Hooked77

Unfortunately that doesn't always hold true for opioids. She was able to get a prescription in Tennessee but wasn't able to get it filled in SC.

There are different rules depending on what schedule the medicine is.

And that reciprocity would not extend far beyond where I live. Lots of little towns around here that are dependent on Augusta for a hospital and many specialists.
