I am scheduled to get a colonoscopy this week. I picked up the prep solution from the pharmacy and began to read about it on the internet. I’m afraid to get the procedure because of the possible side effects and kidney damage. I have recently been diagnosed with kidney atrophy and I’m at the very low end of stage 2. I called the GI doc and they told me not to worry about the prep solution(polyethylene glycol). I’m not very trusting so I wanted to know what members of this group thought. I’m I being too worried? Has anyone had kidney damage from the prep solution. Thank you in advance for your input.

Miralax and gatorade are one of the most commonly prescribed colonoscopy preps today. My husband's elderly cousin recently used it and she has many medical conditions.
As much as your gastroenterologist has your records, if you will feel better, give your nephrologist a call and get his opinion as he/ she will reassure you.
My nephrologist OK'd the prep for a colonoscopy. He has me stay very hydrated before the test and after, that way it does it's job and gets thru my system quickly.
Thank you for your response. I have postponed my procedure as I have an appointment with a new nephrologist this Thursday. I will inquire about the amount of prep for the procedure.
