Antidepressants

I was prescribed Sertraline recently and after taking just two doses, I woke up in the night with an awful headache and pain in my jaw and face which lasted all the next day. So I haven’t taken anymore as I’m afraid to . I was desperate for something to help the depression and now I don’t know what to do .

Hi. I am on sertraline and have been for a long time. I don't have side effects but I can't remember what they were in the beginning. Maybe your doc could start you on a lower dose. The relief is worth it.

early side effects are common and tend to wane. I use a mouth guard at night though, b/c the SSRI’s can cause clenching and headaches. The mouth guard has solved it for me.

Hey,

I definitely can understand your fear now :/

Is this general an issue that you are afraid of medication?

Normally every type of Antidepressant will be dosed slowly upwards , so side effects can be minimised.

Which dose you take ?

Is this your first medication against your symptoms?

Thankyou Frederik96 , yes I am very nervous of medication, It might be because I was a nurse. It’s only a low dose and it’s the first one I’ve been prescribed along with some cbt . Years ago I was as put on an anti depressant which gave me Parkinson disease symptoms and I felt terrible until I was taken off them .

I’m interested to hear about these Parkinson’s symptoms as I’m sure that’s what I am experiencing….

Hi Gumbledore8 , I couldn’t lift a cup up to my mouth, my legs were extremely restless, and I couldn’t walk properly. When I went back to the GP he stopped the medication immediately and said I was having Parkinson’s symptoms. It was called Rispiradone I think

Hi there! I’ve been on sertraline for 2 years and it has worked great for me. I recommend taking it consistently so it doesn’t mess anything up with your moods. I take 150 mg and it’s fine for me and does it’s job. As an as needed medication, I am prescribed Hydroxyzine that helps for anxiety as well. I would say consistently take it and see if it’s just because your body isn’t used to the medication. I do notice my body temperature rises pretty quickly while on it but to me that’s a side effect I can manage through. Hope all works! Reach out if you need anything else!
